Sometimes in twos

Shirt - Austin Clothing Co., thrifted
Skirt - Chadwicks, thrifted
Custom Harness - Audra Jean
Tiny star buttonflower - MMD
Pearl Hart Pumps - John Fluevog

Sometimes finding that perfect piece is impossible - short of having it made up from scratch. From the beginning of this little blog I've wanted a yellow skirt in the perfect shade of not-quite yellow, not quite orange. Very rich and marigold. Sheila gifted me a gorgeous yellow pencil skirt that fulfilled almost all of my dreams. The only problem is the 50% wool/50% modal material. Too hot for my Southern summers.

I kept an eye out for anything that might fill the gap for summer and finally! Success. The waistband needs to come up just a hair, the color isn't quite as saturated as I hoped, but it was a big win for $2. Sometimes it just takes two to fulfill the gap. Now I have the option of a cozy bright pencil skirt in winter, or super thin flowy in summer.

Although here is Light Blue Shirt #4. Oops. Well at least it's got a nifty print and fun little snap buttons? I couldn't resist. You can see by my shoes that despite the sunny appearance - I took today's pictures in the middle of a torrential downpour. My hair poofed up nearly twice the volume by the time I left the garage!

Sky-Jack would make an excellent DJ name
MMD accessory of the day: Sheila wears her lemon mini buttonflower with a gorgeous printed top.

  1. Pretty! This looks great! I'm glad you found a yellow skirt that was what you wanted! Looks awesome with the blue shirt, really nice color combo! And I love that the shirt has polka dots since you know I love the polka dots!

  2. Polka-dots for the win! Great look today, especially with the harness giving it some edge.

  6. Congrats on finding the skirt. Like you, I keep a short list of things I'm looking for in the thrifts and a few of them (a camel coat and the bowling shoes) took ages to find.

  7. At first I wondered if I had that eBay yellow skirt mailed to you! Yay for yellow skirts; can't wait to see the one Sheila sent.

It poured down rain here, too, further ensuring crappy outfit shooting for me :p

  8. I'm in love with the whole outfit, especially the high harness with the longer shirt! Ugh, I'm ashamed to say I have four mustard-ish skirts, but they're my fave and they're all different weights and lengths and shapes!

  9. OMGosh I can't begin to tell you the smile on my face from this outfit! I am SO glad you have TWO YELLOW SKIRTS NOW!!! As you know I am a HUGE fan of the yellow pencil skirt and now this one is a tie for first place in my book. Yellow is my favorite color and I LOOOOOVE both skirts! Yay!

And I personally don't think you can get enough light blue tops. This print is super fun and funky. Light blue is a great color on you!

  12. One of your best outfits, so colorful and polished. You worked a skinny harness belt into a calssic button-down. Niceeee.

Stop by to see what's new. I appreciate it.

Hoping it cooled down over there. It cooled down by 3 degrees here, today. It's nothing cause it has been a gazillion degrees.

  14. I love the pouffy yellow skirt! I have the same issue with my own yellow pencil skirt - I'm saving it for a bright item in a fall capsule.

Those shoes are so darned cute - I miss my purple Pearl Harts!

Thank you so much for the shout-out/link, hon!

  15. Beautiful colors!! I love the way everything works together without appearing contrived. The shoes are awesome and the harness is outstanding!! Zana Bayne (I think that's how to spell her name) is a Brooklyn artist who does amazing harnesses/belts/shoe harnesses etc. Her blog is called Garbage Dress. Let me know if you like it!!

I also loved your comment on Patti's site regarding fit and comfort as it relates to quality. I believe you're absolutely right; I hadn't really though about that because I'm always looking for the least expensive option. I'm sure the trick then is to find the quality at the thrift/vintage stores. And someday I think I WILL have a custom made corset. It's the one thing stylistically that irks me the most- I have no waist!!

    1. I love Zana Bayne! I've never purchased anything though because the price point is a little more outside of my budget than Audi and Mark's. Hope to someday place an order though! I've gotten a ton of wear out of both of my harnesses and they're still in perfect condition.

I adore corsetry and have always wanted one. I know lifestyle wise I'd have very little reason to wear one. Glad my comment made an impact. I like to be an open-minded person.
