DIY Monday

Jeans - Spacegirlz, thrifted
Boots - Fluevog, ebay
Custom Harness - Audra Jean

I usually try hard to keep positivity here, but to be honest, I'm having a really rough morning. It's also fall break, which is just making this harder. The biggest thing going on is that I have to do 3 hours of volunteer work for one of my classes, which is no big deal, right? I mean, I live in the Volunteer State! Wrong! I've been turned down by no less than 7 places so far. Places are either booked up, require a hiring process for "full time" type volunteers or require background checks (not a problem, except I'm now running out of time because our papers based on work is due next Monday, and those checks take time). So I'm feeling a bit disheartened, especially since I volunteered all throughout my teens, and still give lots of my time to different people and places.

On a much more positive note - this shirt! I've been planning a bleach-dye project for awhile, and this shirt came along via my Mom. I got a wild hair this weekend and bleached it. The jeans are newly thrifted. Here's the question for the day - do you want the Sew Sunday how-to today or this weekend? It's up here.

  1. Sorry you are having a bad day. You would think people would come out of the woodwork for volunteers. What about your local library, dog shelter, homeless shelter or a nursing home? Good luck! Hopefully something will come up for you soon.

On a happier note your shirt is so cool! I would definitely love to see a DIY on this. Me and the little one like to tie dye, so this might be fun. Love the zippers on your jeans too. Heather

  6. I can't believe you are having such a hard time volunteering...seems ironic that places who need volunteers are so picky. I'm just sayin'...

I love your top - great tutorial too.

  8. Sorry to hear that you're having a rough time, hon. Hang in there!

Awesome bleaching on your top! I did something similar back in the 80s, to a pair of purple jeans.

  9. Does it have to be for an organization or can it be for a neighbour / family? There'd certainly be less bureaucratic processes!

    THe shirt turned out well!
