Cognac Cords

Tee - Tryst, thrifted
Jacket - thrifted
Cords - J Crew, thrifted
Army flats - Trippen

Now that cooler weather has hit, it's like a whole new closet has opened up for me. I finally get to pull out these cords. I'd been hunting a pair all summer because I knew I'd want some jeans-alternatives for winter. I couldn't find a good colorful pair in my size, but these J.crew cords popped up for 99p. I'm still playing around with them, and like many of my experimental pieces, it was a small price to pay for something I was unsure of. (Also still kind of mixed on the fit, these are petites and feel a bit short all over. I'm only ~5'2" hmmm!)

My fall break is coming up - and boy do I need it. I'm not sure if it's just peak time for people to be crazy in your face or what. I need some time to get a good book to read and refresh myself before continuing on. Maybe just some life burnout. How do you refresh when you really need to keep working hard?

  1. I take a nap with a kitty, of course - as needed. Lovely color on you as you know, I'm sure. And they don't look too short, unless you want the dragging on the ground with ripped hems kinda look...that I sometimes get with my too long bell bottom jeans. yep.

    1. I sometimes feel uncomfortable when I sit down and the legs pull up a lot. It's a fine line to find that perfect fit, especially as a petite person with slightly long legs.

  2. I love the color of these cords! I'd love a pair of pants in that shade! Sounds like you got a great deal on them too! Sorry you've been getting burn out, I'm glad your break is soon! The best way I know to refresh is finding a half hour of your day to just do something that you love best.

  3. A great fall outfit, such colours and textures. When time is really short, I find that a change of scenery and contact with creative, inspired people and their work does the trick. Also, not scrimping on sleep is key! So glad for your upcoming break.

  4. I love this outfit! Keeping up with sleep is key, I think, for staying refreshed. Sometimes I will take a break and give loves to one of my kitties, they usually provide a laugh or smile which makes it easier to get back to work.

  5. I just love the word Cognac. It sounds so appetizing and rich. You look rich in this colorful outfit too. Love the fabric in your top which resembles a skirt I'm going to do a post in. (with your button flowers)

We had a black German Shepherd puppy when I was a tiny kid. His name was Cognac. Sad thing though, we had to have him put to sleep because he had epilepsy and back then there were no meds for it. Not even sure if there are now. The docs told us it was dangerous because he could bite one of us kids during a seizure. So sad, on the way to the vet I didn't really understand what was going on.

  6. These cords are phenomenal! I love their rich color! They look fantastic with your leather jacket! I wish I had a fall break :-( but I am happy that you are going to get one. Rest is very important!

  7. Beautiful colours! I can't find a pair of cord trousers I'm happy with, although I suppose I'll never stop looking, since I love corduroy so much. I don't think those are too short, but I'm sensitive to the legs pulling up when I sit down, too, so I get your concern.

I window shop and thrift for stress breaks. Mostly I think it's that I'm out and walking around, and the exercise is helping with the stress. I've started discreetly snapping photos of mannequins in shops if I like how they're dressed, and then I come home and see if I can recreate the general feel from my existing wardrobe.

  8. Love those pants!
For me, when I am getting burned out it is time to only do one thing at a time. I tend to bounce from task to task, which is fine when I am hypomanic, but when I slide down-cycle, it is overwhelming. One thing at a time makes me more efficient and gives me a sense of accomplishment.

  9. Fall suits you so well! Love your new cords with your graphic tee. Sorry you're feeling a bit burnt. I am a true introvert, and need time alone with a book or movie to recharge. No social obligations!

  10. I rely on carbs and soda for jolts. That's terrible I know.

I do love the color of those cords, and the whole autumnal color palette, including your beautiful hair. I'm not much taller than you, yet I rarely buy petite pants. I think our inseams are slightly longer than petite.

  11. I need a fall break. I just can't rest up enough on weekends-or get as much done as I hope.

Love the color of the cords. Looks like they fit great. Just keep them with super flat shoes.

  12. My work exhausts me and I'm also tired. My refreshment comes from riding my motorcycles. Riding changes my mental state and reminds me of the bliss of simply being alive.

  13. Those colors are great together!

I don't have a good answer for getting a good re-boot because I certainly need one right now. I just focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. Also, snuggling kitties helps.

  14. Lovely Fall colors and look-hurray for jackets and socks!! Love yours. I'm a big fan of hot showers if I can't get a break. At least I can feel the warm water, and breath for just a moment. I always feel a little better. Hope you enjoy your well-deserved break.

  15. I LOVE CORDS IN GENERAL AND I LOVE YOURS. What an awesome color. Hopefully it will cool off more here, today I have been hot all day. You are looking quite Fall-ish and Halloween-ish in this getup, from the pretty Fall colors it has. =)

  16. Naps and new music help me recharge when I need to keep working. I've been listening to the free playlists on Songza.com a lot lately. I don't own any cords...I used to but they are too LOUD on me. My thighs rub together and cords make this swoosh swoosh sound when I walk. I prefer quieter clothes. :)

  17. When i am tired but need to keep going at full pelt, I squeeze in a bed retreat day or morning, with a good book and peanut butter on toast in vast quantities. Also I lose several hours faffing in the bathroom doing facemasks etc. that always helps...

  18. I go walk around the block and get some air, clear my head. I look at Maru. I read Cake Wrecks. I take a mental and physical break and then I'm good to go.

Love the leather jacket with this casual ensemble!
