New New New

Sweater -  Isaac Mizrahi for target, thrifted
Bicycle skirt - Smoking Lily, gift from Sheila
Boots - Art Company
Button flower - gift from Ana

Holy hell, am I excited. I woke up to a beautiful cool morning. It was like somebody had opened up a store in my closet. I have been anxiously awaiting the heat to break so I could wear something more substantial than tissue tanks and skirts. I pulled out one of my brightest sweaters and my mini-dragon boots. Okay, these aren't by the same company that did my boots with the kickass heel, but they had the same vibe. They're about as squishy comfortable as a pair of tennis shoes too. A great eBay score.

And of course, I had to carry the purple through my wardrobe with this button flower from Ana. Definitely a different approach to a buttonflower, but terribly appropriate no? Sheila's Smoking Lily skirt is going to be a fabulous basic. I plan to treat it as a plain black skirt, because it is, just with a super cool bicycle patch.

And finally, the best part of today's new stuff - a Tahari skirt from Amber. Eeee! I couldn't believe how perfectly this fits. I normally don't buy/wear many synthetics because they make my skin crawl, but this floaty skirt is lined with a lovely thick satin-y material that keeps the crawly stuff off my legs. The print (which I totally did not get a good shot of) is an almost geometric-lotus style in purples on a black background. Can't wait to wear it!

Do any of you shop off season? Do you experience a rush of 'shopping' your closet when the seasons change?

Sorry for the total blur. Trying to take pics of
yourself via mirror is hard.

  1. Ooh this is fun and different for sure! I love it though, the bright green just made me smile! I love the different approach to a button flower too! It's really pretty!

I get a total rush when the seasons change, I get excited to wear things I haven't seen in many months!

  2. Yay, buttonflower! Different approach, as you say, but I love seeing mundane stuff re-purposed into cool things. Nice outfit, and the boots intrigue me!

Hasn't been much of a summer, but I'm kind of over it, anyway. I've got a whole bunch of stuff that needs cooler/gloomier weather to wear, and then we got this late flush of summer (which seems to be ending, or at least taking a break right now.) So glad you got some cooler weather; sounds like your summer was brutal!

  3. Love the green and the button flower! Very nice. And I am wild about that patch on the skirt. I am totally with you on the season change. I felt so happy when I opened the front door this morning and was greeted with something besides wilting-hot humidity! It was cool. In fact, I was inspired to pull out some hats and think about fall!

  4. I love the green and purple - and I'm so glad you like the skirt! I was so sad when it shrunk!

I am totally excited for the season changeover - I haul my winter stuff out at the end of this month! It's like finding old friends, to see all that great winter stuff coming out. :)

  5. The bicycle detail is so cute. I've been shopping a little, to replace things that are worn out from last fall/winter.

  6. I was feelin' the purple today too. Sort of like a Purple Paralegal People Eater :o But wearing MMD Designs!

The sweater is a visual delight, and I love Ana's button brooch and Sheila's smokin' skirt :) Pretty Tahari skirt from Amber. I'm always happy with Kenar and Tahari brands.

Finally, a wee bit cooler. But not yet sweater weather here.

  8. Whoa, the green! I definitely like the change of seasons and the range of new possibilities, without having to buy a thing. I've been able to open up the windows of the house--and feel a breeze.

  9. YES YES YES!! There's nothing like the rush of a new season and "new" clothes that've been put away. They're all free!!! Love your colors. Enjoy the breath of fresh air.

  10. I love the new season. There will be items that I look at think "I don't remember that" and get excited. Love this outfit, but especially those fantastic boots!!!!! I have never seen anything like them and wow those are cool. It is still warm here but we should have a cooler day on Thursday. Then it is back to warmer. Usually this time of year it is cool and rainy, but alas, not this year. I have a couple of sweaters that I am wanting to wear and my new boots.

  11. Hooray!!! I knew it belonged with you. :D :D :D Things are purpling right up around here! Today's boots are entirely wonderful, and you totally rock that green.

I do sometimes shop off-season - I picked up my giant white wedge sandals at a great price last November, and waited until mid-June to buy a pair of Sorels in a "discontinued" / previous "season" colour, which happened to be the one I most wanted. In terms of being so glad to see my existing closet-contents, that definitely happens for me in the fall, right through until year-end. Then I get entirely weary of my winter coat, but still feel "rushed" into spring and summer. Fall, though? I am all over it!

  18. Yes, I love "shopping" my closet when it gets cooler. It's like a treasure hunt! I also like being more covered up in the fall...I guess I'm modest in my old age. :)

That is a super cool buttonflower--so different!
