Manic Monday

Collared shirt - Ann Taylor, thrifted
3/4 shirt - Talbots, thrifted
Skinnies - Joe's Jeans, thrifted
Vera Ellen Boots - Fluevog

As you all read, I had a very busy and successful weekend. Following up the gorgeous weather of those days, we find Monday pouring down with rain. And of course my college only makes the one switch from air conditioning to heat one time with the season change, I had to layer it up. As I got to school today, my umbrella turned out to be broken. So I spent the afternoon in various stages between soaking and kind of damp.

Fwiw, Fluevog shoes and boots are excellent at surviving torrential downpours. All three of my pairs have gone through numerous wet downs to dry out perfectly.

I got my newest pair of tights in the mail via sock dreams. I'm not sure if it's just me or what, but the color accuracy on that site is lacking. Twice I've ordered pairs that aren't what I expected in terms of color. And today's tights* look quite large. They're cotton so I know they'll shrink up in the wash, but the DH wound up with some sock dreams socks that I ordered in summer because they were just too huge on my feet. Thankfully they fit him perfectly. I still love the company for their quality selection and free shipping, but I always try to make my purchases with some apprehension.

Additionally, I wanted to share with my readers this youtube playlist: HERE* It's about 60 documentaries on a variety of topics (most of which are probably NSFW or young kids), but it's very educational and interesting at the same time. I did my sewing while watching some of these. If you happen to like documentaries, I highly recommend giving the Vice channel a watch.

  1. It finally rained here too last night and man, did we ever need it! It still wasn't enough! Sounds like an interesting YouTube list! And I love your layered sweater and shirt. It's a little on the preppy side, but not too preppy!

  2. I love this take on classic preppy look with a goth/punk edge. I can't believe it's cool enough there to swear a sweater! I'm still in no hose and no layers mode :(

Boo on lack of color accuracy - I have gotten some crazy colored tights that way. I ordered some nude fishnet hose this weekend, and am excited for them to arrive. I want to push office wear as far as possible. They were a bit dear, but I've loved them on other style bloggers. So classy, yet bad :P

    1. I actually had a jacket on too.. I almost wore a dress with tights and boots, but it was too rainy to feel comfortable doing that much. Both pairs I ordered have come in too dark. One in a grey-blue and the other a burgundy that was almost brown. I haven't hopped on the nude fishnet yet! but I love the look.

  3. You look like such a successful college student! Smart, charming and chic.

I envy your beau for getting your clothing castoffs and unfitting socks.

  4. So sorry you got soaked, but wow, I love this outfit. I was trying to do something similar the day of the dreaded pocket-snap nipples, and you totally nailed what I was aiming for.

  7. So great - I cannot wait to be needing tights, damp or no : > I think I'll watch the doc about the Westboro Church tonight, but I'd better have my blood pressure checked afterward, all that bigotry may get me boiling.

  10. I'm not surprised that your Fluevogs are good in the rain! The company's headquarters are in Vancouver, Rain Capital of the World! Ha!

  12. Hey Megan thanks so much for stopping by.
I've really got to try out these Fluevogs that everybody's talking about. I've been seeing some cute ones around.
You're outfit is great. It looks just like the ones in the magazines, the "I just threw this on, but still look terrific" look.
I'm searching for the two perfect ties for my Obi belt....

  17. I've given up on umbrellas. I'm convinced they're instruments of pure evil. They always turn inside out and leave me soaking wet.

  18. You look very cute in this outfit! I like small, neat collars. A pain to get so wet though... I would love a sou'wester hat (woth a discreet chin strap) to avoid the need for an umbrella. The search continues...

  19. I love all the layering in this look Megan! Sorry about all of the rain though!

  20. I really like this look and the boots, oh the cool boots! Umbrellas aren't much use here. Our winds are usually so strong that an umbrella is turned inside out in no time at all. Plus we get horizontal rain. I have had to literally wring out pants before because they got so wet.
