Hiccup

Wool blend Tee - Ann Taylor, thrifted
Skirt - fei, thrifted
Boots - John Fluevog, ebay
Scorpion Belt - thrifted

Hiccups are a weird phenomenon. They can be caused for a number of different reasons, but the involuntary response is a laughable sound - and miserable feeling. I tend to get the hiccups when sudden temperature shifts happen. Like walking from warm inside to cold outside and vice versa. Sometimes it's just one hiccup while I adjust, other times it sets off a tidal wave of hiccups that last until my ribs ache.

The real story here is my belt. Omg scorpion bellllt. I've only worn this once before, but it's still one of my favorite thrifted finds. It's a little bit industrial with the metal buckle and seat-belt style material. I'm not sure who the target customer was because it's a short little belt and very wide. It's nearly gotten sent back to Goodwill because I haven't worn it much, but I've learned from my past mistakes of being hasty.

These are probably my favorite boots ever. I used to own them in yellow, but stupidly put them back up on ebay because they challenged my style too much at the time. I still struggle with yellow, but I know NOW I could easily style those yellow boots. If you're really seriously about adapting your style into something different, you can do it. Like a good stew, it just takes time to develop delicious flavor. Don't hastily get rid of challenging pieces, give them a few turns before deciding they're definitely not right for you.

  1. Cool belt and awesome boots Megan! I get hiccups at the most awkward times, like while watching a movie. And they go on forever. :-/

  4. Good lesson, to give interesting pieces a chance to "cook" in the closet. These boots are awesome, so awesome.

I know things go around in circles on the 'net - did you send me to this site? Cause it's the absolute best time-sucker ever: http://new.livestream.com/FosterKittenCam/TheScientistKittens

  5. That belt is awesome - it's like those super preppy belts that usually feature horses, or lobsters or whatever, except BAD-ASS! I get the hiccups at least once a day, usually more. Often when I drink things (even water, but for sure after a beer or wine - I'm like a drunk cartoon - immediate hiccups!)

  6. Oh wow, that scorpion is great! As is the whole outfit, and it makes me kind of want to see what I have in grey and yellow that would work together.

Also, your advice to let things sit for a while may have just saved a few items on my personal chopping block. At least a reprieve, while I keep organising and editing. :)

  7. Hiccups are the worst! Especially the ones like you said where they make your ribs hurt. Your belt is great! Glad you didn't get rid of it because it's really cool.

  8. Agreed on honing style. I've heard soany people say, "I can't wear that." my response. "you'll never know if you don't try it."

Love this combo! That skirt is so fab with those boots.

  9. Killer outfit - especially fantastic skirt / belt! Glad the belt didn't get away like the yellow boots. I'm a bit sad when I think of all the years I chose the black version of everything when I had a choice, or didn't get things if they didn't come in black - but how great it is to be in a different place (with bigger stylin'-muscles) now!

  11. Aw, I didn't realize that you'd gotten rid of the yellow boots. That's too bad, but these black ones are awesome.

    Love the cool belt.

  12. The black boots are awesome! But I bet they were pretty awesome in yellow too! My friend scored some awesome red boots when we were thrifting on Labor Day I'm super jealous!

Of course I love the plaid skirt, but I agree, the belt is a big highlight here. Very fun.

I get hiccups when I've had a little bit of alcohol, not going to lie. It's not fun to get rid of them, I need to like get away from everyone else and tune out all noise. My husband likes to tease me.

  13. My top hiccup tip is to massage your earlobes at the same time. Don't know if it just a dstraction tool, but it gets rid of mine.

I love the boots, the buckles and strappiness of them makes me think of a very smart Edwardian gentleman!

I'm curious about the other outfitpost with this skirt in the future.

  16. Fun fact: did you know that if you ask someone their middle name while they have the hiccups, it makes them go away for them? when I worked at Subway, I got the hiccups on the line one time and this customer asked me my middle name and when I said, it they went away. And it has worked ever since. Crazy huh?

These boots would be killer in yellow, but they are bad ass in the black! I looooove them with that skirt!

Thanks again so much for joining my e-party Megan. You had a wonderful outfit!

  18. You had these in YELLOW? Wow. I'm grieving for them :P

The scorpion is a really special detail. You have an amazing eye for the diamonds in the rough when thrifting.
