Liebster

 Dress - blu heaven, thrifted
Cardigan - Pink Twill, thrifted
Star Bandanna - gift
Flats - United Nude

It's Wednesday which means another day loaded with classes. Wednesdays will be my longest days running to 9:25pm! So this particular post was written earlier in the week, but this is today's outfit. Dress was thrifted  with inspiration from Megan of The Fashionable Bureaucrat. I want to burn this cardi after just this afternoon. SO annoying to wear. My hair needs some serious TLC, but my fav stylist has gone on maternity leave. I may risk trying someone new.

So I'm sure you all know by now, the Liebster Award is striking the blogosphere. I answered Amber's, but was actually awarded by Molly of More Charming in Person on Monday. This is actually the second run of the Liebster where the first had no questions. You can see the post here (and my early Sherlock obsession).

I'm a total rule breaker so I'm just going to answer some of the questions and leave some for my readers to answer!

1) Besides fashion, what other types of blogs do you follow?
Advice, jewelry, food, video games, humor. I have a not-so-secret tumblr addiction. I don't HAVE a tumblr, but I read other people's. I specifically don't sign up for stuff to keep from making dumb comments on the internet. Specifically ONTD.

2) Riskiest thing you've ever done?
Left home and got married at 18.

3) Flight or invisibility?
Flight

4) Phobias?
Bedbugs/invasive parasites, deadly viruses, hospitals, making phone calls, losing my memory, extreme pain, driving a car

5) Earliest memory?
Cutting my hair as a toddler. I wanted bangs so bad. My mom referred to it as my "Benjamin Franklin" hair cut.
Candy makes an awful breakfast

6) Favorite toy from childhood?
Books! Or roller blades.

7) How many pairs of shoes do you own?
I think the last count was 16. I am saving for a pair of Cydwoq Ride boots though. I thought I was done and then fell hard. Shoes - y u so awsum.

8) Favorite thing about blogging?
Meeting new people! I'm very shy when it comes to making new friends in real life, even though I talk ALOT. I tend to be a loner and don't make lasting connections. I'm unfortunately a lot like my generation. I suffer from anti-social tendencies and anxiety attacks. But the blog world has put me in touch with people who share a variety of my obscure and varied interests and keeps me in touch with people all around the world.

You guys have heard a lot about me this week, so here's the chance to talk about yourselves! Feel free to answer one, any, or all of these questions in the comments:

1. Batman or Superman?
2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?
3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?
4. How do you think the world will end?
5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
6. Favorite planet!
7. Last movie you saw.
8. Do you have a favorite poem?

  2. I love the green striped sweater and fun blue dress together!! SO cute!! And fun! I hope today is a better day. And yay for Liebster Love! I will answer your questions!

    1. Batman or Superman? Batman. I like a man in black. :)
    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be? Brown.
    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand? Hmm, I've tried a lot of things. I guess a turtleneck because I just can't stand something that is that close to my neck.
    4. How do you think the world will end? I hate thinking about that kind of thing. My guess is something along the lines of Armageddon the movie at some point, but hopefully long after I'm already gone!
    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
    6. Favorite planet! I did a report on Jupiter when I was in school. So we'll just go with that.
    7. Last movie you saw. we re-watched Back to the Future for the first time in years.
    8. Do you have a favorite poem? Promises to Keep - Robert Frost

  3. Aw sorry about your crazy busy day Megan! Love all your colors today and thanks for braving the annoying fitting cardigan, but it looks good as does the head scarf.

    I will answer your questions:

    1. Batman for sure. After all, my name is the same as his sidekick. And my brother started calling Patrick Patman so we could be Patman and Robin. ;-)
    2. I'd go with white as the neutral. I just love white. It always looks crisp, cool and chic.
    3. I don't know about fashion that I can't stand. Other than Crocs, but those are hardly considered "fashion."
    4. I avoid this question--it scares the crap out of me. All I ask is that I not be forced to drown.
    5. Oh $20 on someone else for sure. I love shopping for other people. I'd probably use it on my mom. She never spends money on herself.
    6. I'm going to have to go with Jupiter. Only because Kaden used to be REALLY into astronomy and that was always his favorite planet.
    7. Hmmmmmm. The last movie I saw was probably To Wong Fu, but it wasn't for the first time. I love that movie. :-D
    8. I don't have a favorite poem. I was obsessed with poetry in high school and even wrote it a lot. It really helped me get through an abusive relationship in my past.

  4. If the cardi drives you nuts, toss it. :)

I am getting a little tired of the "Liebster awards." It feels a little circle-jerk-ish, if I may be so crude. :-P Awards like that are why I started my annual "It's a Major Award!" awards - if a blogger can last for a year, I'll give him/her an award. Amazing how many don't last that long.

I do love answering questions, though, so here you go:

    1. Batman or Superman?
    - Superman, but only as done by the Iron Giant...aw...

    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?
    - Olive green. Love that neutral.

    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?
    - Leggings/jeggings. They look sloppy and lazy for the most part, in my opinion.

    4. How do you think the world will end?
    - "not with a bang but a whimper" (TS Eliot's "The Hollow Men")

    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
    - Easy: someone else! I love shopping for people.

    6. Favorite planet!
    - Mars. I have always been entranced with it, ever since I read "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury when I was about 12 years old.

    7. Last movie you saw.
    - The US remake of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" - although stylishly done (thanks, David Fincher), it was really an unneccessary remake. Get over subtitles, people!

    8. Do you have a favorite poem?
    - Yes! It's "Invictus" by William Ernest Henley. I can recite the entire thing. My love for it is somewhat tarnished by the fact that it was the Unabomber's favourite poem also. Arg.

  5. The more I learn about you, the more I like you. And I'm picky, so you must be very special. :)

    1. Batman. When I was a young boy, I wanted to be Robin. I even made myself a bad Robin costume -- not for Halloween or a party, but just so I could wear it and be him.

    3. Blue jeans. They are lazy anti-fashion to me. Hate 'em.

    4. Our species, out of remarkable shortsightedness, is screwing up the global climate to an irreversible degree. In my lifetime, we will see the poor suffer. In your lifetime, you will see many others suffer. I hope you make it to a full lifespan before catastrophe hits, but I'm not so sure of that.

    5. $20 for someone else. Great question.

    7. "Project Nim" - a documentary. Rent it. It's incredible.

  6. 1. Batman or Superman?
    - Batman
    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?
    - Probably black
    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?
    - If i have to choose something i think tops wear the breasts fall almost out.
    4. How do you think the world will end?
    - In War :-( but i hope me and all the nice people will go to heaven.
    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
    - I will choose the 20 to spend on someone else, love to make people happy.
    6. Favorite planet!
    - Since i only know earth very well, i will say earth. I mean, look at all the beauty.
    7. Last movie you saw.
    - Abraham Lincoln fampire hunter.
    8. Do you have a favorite poem?

    - If you didn`t take your medication,
by saying your prayers every day
how can Hafez than in earnest
    listen to all your heartache
    about life or God?

  7. The dress is super awesome on you! It's a great colour and style on you! Sorry the cardigan was a pain.

    1. Batman or Superman?

    Batman.

    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?

Grey - probably not a surprise there.

    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?

Nude pumps. HATE them. So boring - shoes should not be boring!

    4. How do you think the world will end?

At the hand of human kind.

    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?

$20 for someone else. What can you buy for $5?

    6. Favorite planet!

Planet Earth (ba bapbap ba ba ba bapbap, this is planet earth)

    7. Last movie you saw.

    In Bruges. Very funny movie!

    8. Do you have a favorite poem?

    Yes by Dorothy Parker:

    I like a martini,
    Two at the most,
    Three I'm under the table,
    Four I'm under the host

    HAHA!

  8. I love the cardi! What made it so annoying? I saw one like it in long sleeved at a thrift store last weekend, but didn't end up fitting me and I was so sad!

    1. Batman or Superman?
Batman. Superman, by name alone, sounds to generic.
    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?
Grey. The light shades are great for summer, the dark at a conservative "professional" tone.
    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?
MC Hammer pants or whatever dropped crotch pants are now known as.
    4. How do you think the world will end?
I can't comprehend how it will end. However, I can't help but wonder if it will be really peaceful after that happens, and if so, what does that say about humankind?
    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
Oh my goodness, $20 for my niece! We'd go shopping. She's not even 2, and she's such a little style minion. So adorable and opinionated!
    6. Favorite planet!
... this question makes me sad and miss Pluto
    7. Last movie you saw.
Either Dogville or Away We Go. Two very very very different movies.
    8. Do you have a favorite poem?
Variations on the Word Love by Margaret Atwood.

  9. Is there a photo of you with the cut bangs?

    1. ?
    2. gray
    3. not very crazy about mullet hems or dropped crotches.
    4. Have you read Robert Frost's poem Fire and Ice?
    5. 20 to spend on another
    6. Earth
    7. Hugo Cabret
    8. Mary Oliver's Wild Geese

  10. Such a cute dress. I agree with Sheila - toss the cardi if it doesn't make you happy. Gotta be happy in your clothes. I'll answer too:

    1. Batman (darker! edgier!)
    2. Black
    3. For me - cropped pants, ugh
    4. With a bang rather than a whimper, I fear.
    5. Easy one - $20 to spend on my nieces.
    6. Mars - could we make it there?
    7. The Bourne Legacy
    8. To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell

  11. What's wrong with that cardi? I loves it :P Very cool dress, and a great color!

$20 to spend on someone else. But I'd thrift to stretch it, and maybe divide it among several someone elses.

Are you sure we weren't separated at birth? We share so many phobias. Plus, while not of your generation, I am definitely anti-social and anxious :/

  12. I like your outfit and your questions. Here goes:

    1) Superman forever, along with Bizzaro his evil alter-ego. My older sister made me scratch her back for half an hour to read three of her comic books. In retrospect it was a lousy deal, but at 7 years old I didn't have any choice.

    2) I'll always love black: beautiful, mysterious, forgiving black.

    3) Fashion I can't stand? Nothing is really off limits if the physique/attitude can pull it off. I do have an aversion to "status" dressing, but ultimately it's all kind of status dressing. Which club to YOU belong to?!! Manolos or Fluevogs? I do like some clubs better than others, though. I think social consciousness plays a part in what I like or dislike.

    4) I try not to dwell on this topic, but I'm not very optimistic. I do believe, however, that amidst the agony of a slowly dying planet, there will be sublime examples of love and courage. I just hope I can step up to the plate and help care for those around me.

    5) Spend on someone else, absolutely!! I'd love to help them get a a crazy wardrobe for $20!! I've actually done this, and it's so wonderful!!

    6) Well, it's not a planet but I love the moon. I get totally excited when I see it as a crescent or half-moon, hiding behind the clouds, or blazing in it's full-moon glory. It's magical.

    7) Last movie? Er, um, I dunno. I never go to the movies and I never watch them at home. I really can't remember. My daughter is always recommending good movies to me and I have the best of intentions...even if it's just to see the clothes!!

    8) Favorite poem? I'm not really into poetry, although I respect the art form tremendously. I like the poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening because it reminds me of my childhood and the profound hush of a blizzard. I also like the poetry of Maya Angelou. But my favorite? Not sure.

That's it, right? Wow. The cool thing about these questions is that I went down a memory path that is seldom traveled. Thank you!!

  13. Hi Megan, I enjoyed reading these. I think it's interesting what you said about your generation in #8. I've noticed those things in my kids. I do think it has a lot to do with the computer era coming in during your lifetime. It will probably take societies a while to calm down from the rapid advancement we've witnessed. Maybe a little bit too good too fast.

  14. Very cute outfit. Love the cobalt tiered dress with your sassy headband. I love finding out more about you so I am probably going to do a post in my blog, answering all these. =) Don't have time to answer right now.

    Stay Cool, Megan. =)

  15. cute outfit--what was wrong with the cardi??

I'd choose $20 to spend on someone else!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Your brights and tiered ruffles are so happy-looking! Too bad about the sweater - life's too short to keep wearing any item that annoying.

    1. Batman!
    2. Grey - would have been black not so long ago.
    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand? Interpreting this question liberally - the judgement / snark it can bring out in people.
    4. How do you think the world will end? Likely at the hands of us ignorant humans, whether slowly by climate change, poisoning, overpopulation etc., or catastrophically through war or accident.
    5. $20 on someone else!
    6. a) Earth b) Saturn (it has a lovely outfit)
    7. Last movie: The newest Batman, before that I seriously can't recall - I see so few anymore, even at home.
    8. Do you have a favorite poem? Lots - but I will share one of mine, a haiku dedicated to John Fluevog:

    long for you in blue
    oh three hundred dollar shoes
    cold wind through wallet

    Thanks, Megan! :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm impressed that you only have 16 pairs of shoes. I have to narrow down my collection.

    1. Batman or Superman?
Batman all the way. Regular guy that makes himself super. Gives us all hope. Plus he has a dash of darkness...Superman is a bit to boyscout for me.

    2. If you could only pick one neutral to wear, but could wear all other colors, what would it be?
    Black. I'm a NYer. It's a staple.

    3. What is one piece of fashion you cannot stand?
No trend really annoys me too much. Trends come and go and if I don't like it....wooosh something new comes along.

    4. How do you think the world will end?
    with a whimper

    5. If I offered you $5 cash or $20 to spend on someone else, which would you choose?
$20 to spend on someone else

    6. Favorite planet!
Earth...most of my friends live here

    7. Last movie you saw.
    Expendables II

    8. Do you have a favorite poem?
    Ode to a Nightingale
