Topsy Turvy Tuesday

Dress - Liz Claibourne, thrifted
Obi belt - MMD
Flats - Trippen Army

Hallelujah! The temps have finally dropped below the levels of Hell. I decided to jump on the opportunity to wear some sleeves. I also wanted to give this obi a whirl. Speaking of whirling, I'm experiencing some vertigo today. I think any more sewing is going on the back burner for a day or two. I still have a skirt to take up and some sleeves to hem. Instead of sewing, I think I'll make a tasty beef stir fry for dinner.

You may notice color blocking around the blog world today for the EBEW challenge. However I just did my Star Trek, color blocked post about a week ago. You can check it out over here with lots of blocked outfit looks from my past.

Instead today I am challenging myself with an actual challenge - pattern mixing. I've mixed three different sets of stripes today. In interest of editing my closet, I'm still wavering on keeping this dress. I'm not sure the colors/fit is the most flattering. What say you? Stay or go?

Check out Beth's buttonflower on a chain necklace and Megan's flair with added buttonflower. I love the creativity.

  1. I vote that the dress goes. The color washes out your features and it hangs big. However, it doesn't deter from how great your obi belt looks.

  2. Thanks Mary. I think I agree. Into the donate bag it goes.

  3. I think Mary is right on the color, but I do love the belt very much, might be my favorite (besides mine). You're just very fair skinned my dear, so I think that is a tough color to work with.

There is a lot of color around the blogosphere today, that is very true! I did like your Star Trek look last week!

Beef stir fry sounds fantastic! I'm glad the heat finally broke a bit for you!

Oh and I'm excited to see the yellow skirt you thrifted! :)

  4. Actually I was going to comment on how much I love this dress on you Megan! And I love all the pattern mixing you have happening here. I hope you feel better soon!

  5. I'd have to agree that the color is a little bit drab but the shape of the dress is really great! How about a colored vest over it?? Or, some tights to match your hair?

    1. Considering even with the 25 degree drop - we're still in the mid to high 80F range, I won't be wearing tights for a long time. I think I'll likely donate this dress and look for a close replacement maybe in a darker shade, but similar shape.

  6. Agree that the color does not bring out your best, but maybe it has potential as an over- or under-piece for more colorful items? Or, donate it and make room for something more fabulous : > Love your stripe-y belts and strappy shoes!

    1. Thanks for your honesty Patti! I think it will be donated. I want a closet full of my best, especially since I have limited 'real estate' to keep less than stellar things in.

  7. I am in agreement with the other commenters - I like the way you mixed the stripes and the obi belt adds to the dress, but you are simply swimming in it! I think it would look better even if you just trimmed a few inches off the bottom and made it a bit shorter.

  8. STAY!! The belt adds the perfect touch. I'm gonna make one!!!!

  9. I loved that dress with your harness belt. I think you mentioned that you've lost weight recently, because it doesn't look like it's fitting as well as it did when you bought it or when you last wore it. It has a cool retro vibe, and lots of possibilities for re-mixing, including maybe a men's tie at the neck or a great necklace with it, but if you don't gain those pounds back, it might simply end up being too big, unless you take it in, too. As little as you paid for it, I'm wondering how it would turn out if it was dyed a rich chocolate color or deep blue. It does look really good with that belt, tho'.

  10. I say go. It's just kind of boxy and hangs there, doesn't do much for you. You have other better things in your closet!

  11. I like the cut of the dress, but the color not so much. As for the heat, there's a church a half a block away from us and their signboard reads..."If you think it's hot here..."

  12. You have much more awesome dresses, so I vote donate. The belt looks lovely though :-)

  13. In my opinion the colour of the dress is dull and washes you out, not worthwhile keeping. :)

  14. The dress looks comfortable and easy to accessorize but I agree that it's not up to the Megan Mae standard of awesomeness. Time to let it go.

  15. Agree with other people on the color of the dress -- you have better stuff!

  16. I think the dress is sassy and I would like it even more as a top or tunic! Sorry to hear you have vertigo, my Mum gets that, it sounds awful!

  17. I like the style of the dress but not the color so much on you--maybe with a brighter jacket but I'd donate it--there's too much fabulousness out there for you to wear.
We've finally cooled down from temperatures nearing the surface of the sun here. Planning on mailing the ties out this Friday!!

  19. I like the dress. But, if you are not feeling like a million bucks in it: let it go.

  20. Love the mix of stripes! The obi looks great with the dress. But, it looks too big for you. I've so missed the blogs, especially you, the last week. We've been out of town and checking blogs on my phone just isn't as fun as on a real computer. Hope to be back to reading soon.

  21. Dear Megan, you look great.

I would welcome and embrace short sleeves now too but it's still hot as hell. I am sorry I haven't been much of a reader or even a blogger lately. I caught up on two weeks worth of outfits from you and loved them while commenting on them. =)
