Sandal Scandal

Tank - Alexander McQueen for Target, gift from Eek
Skirt - Thrifted
Sandals - Eurosoft by Sofft
Necklaces - gifts from Lynne

Okay, so some readers totally caught me. Yep those are new sandals. Why did I get new sandals about a week after posting about saving? Well, I hit my first goal! I had put up all the rest of the shoes that made my knees hurt (*tears*) - yes, even those impossibly cool All Saints boots - and the last too-small clothes not going into the yardsale on ebay before I made that post. I wound up with enough dough from the auctions that I ordered the Trippens!

Come to find out, the boots had some sun discoloration on the pair in my size from being in a display. The Gravity Pope rep was super helpful, took photos and let me know before filling the order. They offered to cancel the order, but instead I asked if they would be willing to discount the boots and sell them anyway (knowing it would be final sale). They agreed!

So I wound up picking up this awesome pair of sandals knowing I've got at least another month of hot weather to contend with. It is a good thing I did. I also realized I haven't worn most of my summer clothes more than 1-2 times - including this blouse and skirt. We have a long hot season so I tend to buy a lot of summer clothes.

This pair of sandals filled multiple requirements (black, low heel, leather, could go dressy). It manages to have a tough look, but be super soft. It's pretty goshdarned difficult to find that in a shoe, much less a sandal. I wore them all weekend.

I really killed my shoe collection this year. It's been hard coming to terms with the fact that I can't handle shoes I used to love and wear comfortably. I let go a lot of hard-won shoes. I'm down to 15 pairs, which freaked me out a bit, but now I have the opportunity to really curate what comes into my closet. Apologies if things get repetitive, but I'm trying to shop smarter these days.

My next set of savings goals will go a lot slower, but I'm pretty pumped that my shoe auctions netted enough to score The Boots and a magical pair of sandals as well. Donation is a great option for things you don't want, but look into consigning, ebay, or yard sale-ing as alternatives. The extra dough can be worth it if you can handle the hassle of selling.

And to make my shopping confessions more visible - I'm linking up with the ever-lovely Patti's Visible Monday at NotDeadYetStyle.

  1. I love the new sandals (and don't think it is scandalous at all). Congrats on getting the boots you want. I've ordered some things on eBay, but one of the things I intend to do during my vacation is to actually start selling at item or two.

  2. Wow - great negotiating and fabulous new sandals, Megan. These are perfection for summer. I love the green skirt too - this is the reversible one, yes? Thanks so much for sharing with Visible Monday.

  3. Oh Megan you are so brave. I doubt I could part with that many shoes. Nonetheless, it is a very wise choice on your part and I am very proud of you. I love these sandals. They are so cool and totally fit your personality!

  5. I really like the idea to wear a top over a top! To have sandals which can be worn to dresses, skirts and pants are a lucky strike, fortunately you found them.

  8. That's awesome that you hit your goal! Sandals are perfect reward, especially rocking ones like these! They're great! I like the skirt and tank combo too, very summery and fresh!! I hope your goal comes up sooner rather than later!

  9. Wow, what a cool top. Is it made that way - or is that how you've put it together for today? Everything else is cool too, but I'm really digging that top...

    1. It's made that way. Though I'm sure it would be a great option for wearing a scarf over a tank.

  10. Those are awesome sandals - I'm glad you went with leather. I have a pair of (non-leather) sandals in my next capsule and I'm 100% positive that they're going to be turfed at the end of the month. They were free, but still...cheap shoes aren't worth the hassel.

I'm so proud of you for weeding down your collection. I'll be doing a heavy purge of my own shoes this year (albeit in 1-month purging increments). It's kind of sad to realize that I'm nearing the end with some of my shoes (even a pair or two of Fluevogs!), but my foot health is more important to me.

  11. My favourite, most comfortable pair of sandals are Eurosoffts, and they've worn like iron for me.

I've been coming to terms with my shoe collection, too. I'm finally accepting that I really can't tough it out and wear uncomfortable shoes for anything more than the most special and/or unusual of occasions. I envy you for learning that WAY earlier in life than I did. :)

That tank is so cool; I thought you'd done some trickery with a scarf, but it's all one piece.

  12. yay for saving $$ and great shoe/boot luck! Can't wait to see your new boots in action. I am impressed that you have whittled your shoe collection down to just 15 - I am still holding onto my heels, some of which I probably won't wear, just because I have a hard time letting go. I should try to sell some...

The tank looks so good on you! ox

    1. I would have kept some of them if I had more storage space, but I have so little - I can't keep things I'm not actively using at some point during the year.

  13. I didn't rat you out, I swear! :o

But I do love those sandals and wish we lived next door so I could put my feet in 'em :D

Today I almost made two purchases, one in person and one online, and both times I made me stop. But tough, so tough. I'm off to paint my nails again, y'all...

  15. Love. Love those sandals! I sold on eBay. One pair. $4. Sad, but at lease they are in good hands - well, on good feet.:)

  16. Most excellent sandals! Your sandals and with your off-the-shoulder-looking top, I am getting a cool modern Roman gladiatrix image. It would be perfect if you could break into an operatic aria in this, with a torch.

  17. 15 pairs of shoes! Yowza! I thought those sandals looks new - they look a lot like your star sandals so I wasn't sure. They kick ass!

Can't wait to see your Trippen boots.

  18. You made a great choice in those shoes I'd say. I discovered that brand through Patti's blog and ended up buying two pair because they are both stylish and so comfortable. You'll get a ton of mileage out of them I'm sure of it.

  19. Those sandals are perfect for you!!! And I'm in awe of your ability to sell things you no longer need or love. I end up just donating or throwing them out. I need to not be so lazy...

  20. I love the sandals. They will work with so many outfits and just add a perfect touch to each one. I think you are inspiring me to start looking at getting rid of shoes I rarely wear.
I am sorry I haven't been commenting lately. I am just in a funk. I will send you an email soon.
