FC: This or That: Pastel/Neon

Shirt - Ravel, thrifted
Scarf - thrifted
Shorts - St. John's Bay, thrifted
Logic oxfords - Cydwoq
Bag - Target

We have a local television ad that runs: "It's HOT! And you need a pool!" said by a girl, whom I assume is the business owner's daughter. She has a high pitched voice, but every time I say the words "I'm hot," I now want to follow it with "I need a pool." With the way this summer has gone, I am really regretting that I haven't hit the (indoor) pool since winter.

Of course today I could have done major neon. Eye-searing brights have wormed their way into my wardrobe faster than I could stop them, but pastels challenge me. And this is fashion challenge. Today I opted for yet another piece from my thrifting trip, this shirt. Crisp with a ton of almost-knife pleats, converging seams, and pastel blue shade, I brought this baby home with me asap. Baby blue is a great alternative to white shirts for pale girls, or really anybody, but I am a pale-girl.

I decided to try a boyish look with shorts and oxfords. Way preppier than I ever typically go, but this felt cool, funky, and challenging for me. Grey has quickly become my favorite neutral. I'm often digging for charcoals, silvers, and pewters. Grey can really enliven a wardrobe, kicking flat black basics to the curb. Needless to say most of the black in my wardrobe has been replaced by grey equivalents.

Also in my mailbox this afternoon - Aaaaa! A smoking lily shirt from Sheila! It's got flies on it! Fliiies. Also in the package was a beautiful coral blouse that fits me in the most perfect 40s-esque way. Sheila has always
picked me out the most amazing pieces to add to my wardrobe. Thanks, dear! You're the best. I can't wait to wear both shirts. (Also note: the shirts totally match what I'm wearing!)

As always, don't forget at the end of the week to send Keely [kkmkreations[at]live[dot]com] your favorite participating photo to be included in the round-up. Be sure to pop by the other participating FC members and give them some encouragement! We've had an amazing group this time around. I've been excited every day to see everyone's styled up looks. Thanks everyone for taking the Fashion Challenge.

  1. Oh! Megan I love this preppy look on you! The bow tie is the best and I am glad that you opted to challenge yourself with the challenge. I tried to do that with floral/tribal too. It's funner that way I think. This is a super cute look and I hope you do another one like it soon! I don't know Sheila, but she seems like the coolest! That is a really cute blouse! Enjoy your weekend!

  3. Oh, yay! That was fast! I sent the shirts by airmail 'cause it was cheap, so I'm glad they arrived okay. :) I'm glad the coral shirt fits you - I bet you look va-va-voom in it! I can't wait to see how you style the two tops.

Love the cute preppy look you have going on here - the loose bow tie is lovely. What an awesome shirt - I love the pleat detailing, and it looks like the tailoring is really good quality.

  5. You're rocking preppy in your own particular way. The bow is a really spiffy touch.

Cannot wait to see the fly shirt! And Sheila is awesome.

Thanks so much for the challenge; I've enjoyed it so much. I needed a bit of a kick in the pants stylewise, and these challenges always provide it.

  6. Your creativity always turns your forays into unexplored fashion territory to be treasure hunts and often, as here, you come up with the gold. This outfit rocks. On you, especially. The boyishness of it is so appealing on you.

And, if I may, I'd like to join the chorus of Sheila fans. ALL HAIL SHEILA!

  8. I knew that shirt would work for you. Wow!

Can't wait to see you wearing the shirts Sheila sent - cool!

I made some purchases today, very much influenced by your style, scoring a wide-striped cardi, and a kind of asymmetrical gray blouse...and a very modern, lean navy dress. I thought about you a lot when I was shopping :) I did buy nude gladiator wedges you pro'bly wouldn't be caught dead in, but oh, how I love them! lol.

And sooooooo many peeps asked about the obi belt today - and the Vogs. I hope John Fluevog appreciates me :o

  14. Sheila is The Bomb Diggity, for sure. Pale blue looks great on you! As a fellow PhD Pale-Ontologist, I've been drawn to the color more and more. I used to hate it because I associated it with conservative button-down shirts, but this outfit just shows how awesome the right color can be when coupled with an interesting cut and fabric. Kudos!

  15. I love the fly tee and I wonder what an actual fly will do when they see it. I love the cut of the pale blue blouse and in many of my summer outfits, I wear blouses very similar to it.
