McQueen

Blouse - McQueen for Target, gift from Ee
Skinny jeans - Old Navy, thrifted
Flats - United Nude
Star bracelet - Target
Stud bracelet - vintage via Mom
Moon Pin - gift via Debbi

Let me take a moment to say how cool this outfit makes me feel.

I started my blog in September of 2009. I wasn't big into fashion, but I loved make-over shows. I felt, at 19, that I needed to 'grow up' my wardrobe. I don't know if I've really done that, but I definitely feel an overwhelming awesome feeling every time I go to get dressed. I feel like "me" these days, which is something I really struggle with. Also I struggle with ending sentences with prepositions. Sorry.

Since I started the blog, I've learned to keep a minimal tab on trends, both runway and blog-world. I've found designers and brands I love at all price points, and learned who's runway shows I might want to take a moment to thumb through. Alexander McQueen was the most profound designer in my fashion discovery, and it took me a couple years to learn that he had done a Target collab shortly before I really got into 'clothes'. I told this to Ee awhile ago, and she surprised me last week with this McQueen for Target blouse.

I dressed it up with this moon and stars pin from Debbi, my favorite bracelets, and United Nude flats.

As I've said a million times on every social networking site, I've been reading the Hunger Games. I finished the whole trilogy yesterday after about 72 hours since starting book one. A brilliant series, I'm definitely going to see the movie. No movie-specific spoilers please! Not sure when I'll get to see it, but it will be this week. I haven't enjoyed anything this much since Harry Potter (well, BBC Sherlock, but still).

  2. Your wardrobe definitely feels "grown up" to me, but at the same time, I feel like you've undoubtedly stayed true to you and the bad-ass/geeky side (I'm assuming!) that you lived out in high school. Now you just look much more put together than you did back then... again assuming.

haha, in conclusion! I love your style, regardless of how many "trendy" pieces you incorporate you always look amazing. I'm glad you would never consider conforming :)

  5. I love this outfit, and your brooch. How cool is it that a friend found the McQueen blouse for you? And how cool is it that my 26 year old, The Graduate Student in Costume Construction, is doing an Alexander McQueen project for her thesis, and wearing it across the stage at graduation in May? There will be proud mommy pics on the typically boring career style blog :P She has a big coffee table book of Alexander McQueen designs that I love looking through.

I was absolutely bowled over by THG trilogy. Waiting for the crowds to thin to see the movie, although the rest o' the fam did while I was out of town :P

    1. *Gasp!* Looking forward to those pictures.

Also yeah I couldn't wait, so I wound up going by myself tonight. I suggest a matinee if you can swing it. ;)

  6. The McQueen top is gorgeous on you. The blue against your hair is beautiful. I like the pin on it. It makes me think of the dark of night and the blue of the sky with the moon and stars! I am so glad to see it being worn instead of being in a jewelry box all the time.

As to your style--it has changed over and is becoming more "you" with meaning in each piece you wear. I think that is why it makes you feel so great every day. No doubt you will continue to grow and develop your own special style.

  7. What a cool top! You look lovely in turquoise.

FYI, there's nothing wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition. It's a holdover from when everyone thought Latin (which does not have verbs that have prepositions attached, like many of our English verbs do) was a "perfect" language and that English should emulate it. As Winston Churchill so famously said, "That is something up with which I shall not put." Kind of makes that silly rule seem rather...silly, doesn't it? :)

  12. gosh I love your flats! you have to enjoy blogging while you can, you have such nice hair color and skinny shape. That's very good to read- the -book -first then watch -the -movie-idea...it is more thrilling!

  13. Alexander McQueen is my favourite fashion designer. He did such amazing things with both his line and at Givenchy. The woman who discovered him, Isabella Blow, is one of my style icons. She and Daphne Guinness.

That top is so cool and it looks great on you! What a nice surprise from ee. =)

  15. The best part of that top? I spent about 10 minutes staring at it thinking: "it's truly genius... something so interesting, yet so easy to recreate (in theory). Why did I not think of that?!?!"

  17. Oh, I'm so glad you finished the series!! I hated the ending with Prim and all, but I guess they had to do it...

  18. Love your outfit. Love the blouse with the shoes.
It`s very important that you feel happy in your clothes.
sometimes when i wear something i don`t feel comfortable in, i would like
to go home asap. But sometimes it`s not possible, because i am at my job.

  19. I'm an editor in real life, and you have my permission to end your sentences with prepositions. I have a much more casual writing style on my blog than I'm allowed to use at work. I'd rather write how people talk instead of following so-called rules.

Your arms look awesome! It's not quite sleeveless weather here yet...we're in the rainy season apparently.
