Dr. John Watson is Kittens

Collared shirt - Old Navy, thrifted
Sweater - Westbound, thrifted
Jeans - Levi Strauss, thrifted
Boots - Frye, ebay

So, if you spend any length of time talking to me in real life, you'll wind up talking to me about one of two things: Kittens (or pets you own) or BBC's Sherlock. Sherlock is one of my favorite shows, and if you haven't seen it - stop what you're doing right now and go watch it!

Yesterday I found this sweater that was strongly reminiscent of John's huggable kitten sweater on the dressing room rack at Goodwill. Even though off-white sweaters and my skin tone don't usually mix, this is one of those times where I decide to push outside my comfort zone. I think my mental attachments to clothing will always demolish my ability to cultivate a streamlined style. I'd honestly much rather dress like Sherlock, but I don't happen to have impeccably tailored suits in my closet. (I wish!)

Inspiration can come from some odd places. Have you ever tried to dress like a television/movie character?

  1. ROFL I have tried to dress like a TV character - big nerd here - Caroline from 2 Broke Girls. She has these shorts that are adorable so I styled an outfit around something similar! I love your sweater it looks comfy!

  2. I actually think that this sweater looks great on you! I am not a big TV person (except my mindless Jerseylicious indulgence which is finally back on THANK GOD!!!), so I am not familiar with the show, but I love your interpretation!

  3. Oh I heart Dr. Watson so much, and of course I am waiting patiently for Benedict to call me, and take me away to London with him . . . . I think it's one of the best shows *ever* on TV. You look great in Watson's sweater!!

  4. Big dark secret coming... I modeled my entire (male) identity on a TV character -- Napoleon Solo in "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." As a preteen, I put tape in my hair when I went to bed to make it curl exactly the way his did. He was, in my eyes, the epitome of dashing cool.

  5. Love Sherlock though I'm not pleased with the cliffhanger endings! So frustrating. I watch it mostly for Watson as well.

You need a Sherlock hat. ;)

    1. I promise if I ever come across a kitten sweater I will buy it asap. I nearly bought some amazing corduroys with flamingos all over them. Unfortunately they were a size too big.

  8. Yes! When I was in high school many eons ago, I had to wear suits every week because I competed on the speech team (I'm dorky, I know!). Anyhoo, I modeled my style on Lois Lane (Teri Hatcher) from the TV show "Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman." I was obsessed with that show, and I loved Lois's structured suits with big shoulder pads. :)

  9. I think the creamy shade works on you here. Especially with the collared shirt. This is a greater menswear look! I don't think I've ever tried to dress like a tv character. But I have always admired the boldness and styles of some, like the ladies of sex and the city, Lois and Clark, Jane by design and many more.:)

  10. I love the Hollywood movie "Sherlock Holmes" so if the BBC show is similar I'll have to give it a try! I love this cable knit sweater on you- I think the colour is so pretty. You can talk to me about kittens anytime you like :)

  12. I used to love the style of Brennan on Bones. I loved her ethnic jewelry and cool jackets in the first few seasons, now not so much.
I am going to have to see if I can find Sherlock to watch.
You look very British proper in this outfit. So, I think it fits Sherlock!
