Scatterbrained Luck

Shirt - vintage, gifted
Jeans - American Eagle, thrifted
Chain harness - DIY project (tutorial coming soon!)
Boots - Fluevog, ebay
Today was Mom Day. We've pretty much decided Cowboys and Aliens might not happen unless she hits a good day (not busy) midweek before school starts for me. But I still went a little bit rock and roll. I made this chain harness thing earlier this week. I've seen them all over etsy, and I've got all these bits and bobs laying around that I knew could be put together. It helped to add some shape to this boxy vintage top from my mom. I ended up giving it away to a friend of her's (swapping for a tshirt) because it was a bit big.

I'm nearing the end of my shopping days. If you've been following my blog for awhile, you'll know that my husband lost his job awhile back. We're both going back to school, and will be looking forward to the possibility of actual university in future years. So in the interest of saving and all that, I'll be looking into a ban shortly after school starts. I've got a list of holes in my winter wardrobe that I've yet to fill, like a midweight jacket and some warm tights that I'll be picking up soon, but otherwise my winter-drawer is full this year. I hit my last thrifting trip on Wednesday, to a bit of a disappointment (found one shirt), but as luck would have it, my mom found me tons of goodies this past week! Today I got a pair of white capris, pair of jeans, a l/s Henley, a star print bandanna, and a pair of shoes! Incredible. I can't find jeans that fit after trying on 50 different pairs (for real), but my mom nails it in one go. So I definitely had a great weekend.

What did you do over the weekend? Are you looking forward to the change in season?

  1. Sweet harness! I love those jeans too. And what a great haul. I'm on a shopping ban until layoff notices come at my hubby's work-just in case. Besides, I have spent waaay too much in the last couple of months.

We got that carpet laid. I cleaned up the rooms and started moving my clothes and what not into my new closet/craft-room. I've been giddy all day! I can't wait to finish it up and post pics!

  2. Sounds like a great thrifting haul! I love your harness too - you are just so creative!

Living in Houston means that summer lasts until at least the end of September so I don't even try to think about fall clothes until then. Good luck with savings and school!

  3. Pretty cool harness! It does look great with this top! Good luck with your shopping ban. Mine goes in spurts, because I have no will power, lol!

I am definitely getting the fall bug, but not looking forward to cold winter at all!

  4. That top looks fab with your harness.
I actually went thrifting on Saturday. I am starting to see the thrill of the chase! I found a cute Sandy Starkman jacket with big red hearts on it and a peach colored jacket. The jacket with the hearts is a bit too small, but was too cute to pass up. I saw several things that were fantastic bargains, but were many sizes too small for me. I think about a size 6 is the perfect sized person for thrifting. If only it were me.
It will be interesting to see what you do in the future with what you have as that is mostly what I will be doing myself.

  5. I cannot believe that you made that harness!!! Too cool! Sorry to hear about your husband's job. But the great part about not being able to shop is that you come to appreciate your closet so much more.
