Tank - thrifted Skirt - Casual Corner's Annex Petite, thrifted, altered Sandals - Van Eli, thrifted Trek pin - birthday gift from my BFF |
Well this is the end of the Unofficial Red Week. The best votes were for pink and red, or pale pink. I only own one pink top which was worn Thursday. If it wasn't boiling hot, I'd totally wear my pink pants with a red top, but it is. Boiling. So the best I got is this vintage skirt with pink, red, orange and purple in it.
Last time I wore this I mentioned that it was originally a dress. I was asked for a Sew Sunday on turning dresses into skirts, but I have to admit this particular dress made it way too dead simple. The top half buttoned up the back, and the skirt part had a zipper.I basically cut the top portion off and folded over some excess fabric (badly) and sewed it down. This trick won't work with 95% of dress-to-skirt transformations.

Glad this one worked out so well! You look smashing. And yes, this heat has got to get it under control. I mean, seriously. One can only take so much!
ReplyDeleteNice re-fashioning. I'm been trying that with a lot of thrift-store items, but need to develop my sewing skill; right now, it's pathetically basic. This dress was worth the transformation: it's a pretty print with vivid colors.
ReplyDeleteCute! I really liked the dress before (had to go check that out), but it looks great as a skirt! I really need to get my sewing machine out again....
ReplyDeleteI think you should put on the pink pants with the red top just to show us!
ReplyDeleteI really like the contrast of the white tank against the bright vibrant colors. This looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the skirt - I love that print. You look great!
ReplyDeleteUnofficial Red Week was so fun! I think this skirt was the perfect finale. I'm so impressed by the transformation it made from a dress to a skirt. I know I have done that to several pieces in my closet. Such a great way to recreate an item. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteNice outfit!

Lookin' good! How often do you have to make alterations to your clothing? (ex do if its a little big, would just say its only a few bucks to have it done or do you alter the items yourself?)
ReplyDeletethanks

@ I Goodie 2 Shoes - I occasionally do my own alterations. Hemming and removing sleeves I dislike are the most common. I've also taken in blouses that are too boxy, and taken up dresses/tops that are cut for someone taller than myself. It's mostly small things that most people wouldn't even notice that much, but it makes a difference for me. I only post my bigger projects for Sew Sunday because saying "i made a straight line with my sewing machine here" makes for a bad post. ;]
